Honey
Bees & Bumble Bees HoneyBee Swarms
Only
occasionally do honeybees become pests. In the spring and summer when
they swarm they can suddenly appear like a rugby ball in the branches
of trees or other structures. In this state we can easily take them
away and rehome them in a bee hive with a beekeeper. As this is a
fairly lengthy job
requiring us to immediately transport the bees to their new home which
may be some distance away, Sale and Altrincham Pest Control make a
charge of £75.00 for
this service.
Occasionally however the bee swarm moves into structures such as
chimnies or airvents and when this occurs it is often impractical to
remove them and they have to be destroyed. Honeybees are not a
protected species in the U.K. although we destroy them only as a very
last resort.
If you get a bee swarm, leave them alone and call us immediately a bee
sting can be very painful.
When a bee colony is destroyed with insecticide it is a legal
requirement to remove any honey contaminated with the insecticide as it
may be robbed out by wild or commercial bees. Sale and Altrincham Pest Control
will advise you on
this.
Bumble Bees
Bumble
bees are a very docile bee and rarely sting, although they can and do
sting if severely provoked. Unless thay form a real danger to health
and safety then there is no need to destroy them. We advise leaving
them alone and enjoying their company during the summer. The bumble bee
colony lasts only one year and the nest will die out in the autumn.
Like honey bees, bumble bees are not a protected species.
