The Australian
spider beetle, Ptinus tectus,
is a tiny beetle
that can be found infesting a wide variety of products. It is among the
commonest household pest insects. It is a cosmopolitan species (arrived
in Europe and the UK
from Australia in 1900).
It is often associated with the presence of birds' nesting material and
a check should be made for bird infestation whenever this pest is found.
